Performance Guidelines

Confirming that your event meets these criteria will help us process your request.

Performance season: Our season runs from September through May. Requests for June, July, or August will most likely not be accepted.

Advance notice:
- Weekday events must be requested at least 90 days in advance. Our dancers are minors, weekday (M-Th) performances can only take place between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm.
- Weekend events must be requested at least 60 days in advance.

Performance surface and space: Performances cannot take place on slippery or unstable surfaces such as grass or loose gravel. We prefer a clear, flat area of at least 20 x 20. Space assigned at the venue will affect number of dancers and the overall performance. No cables, mic stands, speakers, or other obstacles should be in the performance space; they may be positioned around the dance area.

Outdoor events: If your event is outdoors, a shaded or covered area must be provided to protect dancers from direct sun or rain. Performances may need to be adjusted or canceled if temperatures exceed 90–95°F (32–35°C), as these conditions can be unsafe for dancers.

Sound system and microphones: A working sound system with AUX or Bluetooth capability must be provided, along with all necessary connection cables. At least one microphone (two preferred) must also be available for announcements and introductions.

Facilities: We require at least one parking space close to the event location for loading and unloading dance costumes, as well as proper changing rooms (restrooms cannot be used as changing areas). For outdoor events, a minimum shaded or covered area of 20 x 10 feet is required (for example, two 10 x 10 tents with walls).

Youth performers: As our dancers are minors, we may request adjustments to the performance time or location depending on the type of event, to ensure they can showcase their talent in a setting that commands the attention of the audience.

Deposit: Depending on the type of event, a deposit may be required to secure your performance request.

Community Based Performances?

Yes, we love to support our community and truly appreciate every invitation we receive. However, because Grupo Folklórico Quetzalén receives many requests and has limited staff and programming capacity, we are able to perform only at community-serving events. Since our performers are school-aged youth, we also limit our participation to no more than six events during the school year, and all requests should be submitted at least 90 days in advance.

Please review our performance criteria:

Event must take place outside of normal school hours (see performance guidelines for more information about the our performance season and times).
Event must be open to the public.
Event must benefit the community.
Event must be inclusive of all cultures, traditions, and backgrounds.
Event must be family-friendly, as our performers are minors.
Event must provide a setting where our students’ performances receive the attention of the room.
If Quetzalén is performing on a free or donation basis, we kindly ask that all other entertainment at the event (mariachi, bands, DJs, etc.) also participate under the same arrangement.
